The original idea came up in late 2007, when I was frustrated of not finding enough language resources I liked to learn a bit of Dutch. After playing around with the idea for some time and discussing it with friends, I started actual coding work around April 2008, and thanks to heavily relying on Mediawiki's powerful architecture and other open source bits of software, an initial "functionnal" website was in place at the end of the summer 2008.

Currently, the project idling a bit as I'm busy with my real world job, but I'm working on ways to actually get more work done on it. I try to extend the content of lessons slowly when I have a spare minute.

[edit] Why "Wikibabel" ?

The name sprung to my mind quite soon when I was first considering the idea, and although I don't totally like it, I haven't found better so far, so it's still used...
